Course Brief Overview:
1. Introduction to Social Statistics
Social statistics is the use of statistical measurement tools to study human/social behavior in a social environment. This can be accomplished through drawing a particular group of people, evaluating a particular subset of data obtained about a group of people, or by observation and statistical analysis of a set of data that relates to people and their behaviors.

Social scientists use social statistics for many purposes, which include:
1) the evaluation of the quality of services provided to a specific group or by a certain organization,
2) analyzing behaviors of groups of people in their environment and special situations, and
3) determining the wants or needs of people through statistical sampling
Learning outcomes
Social statistics has major learning outcomes. After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Calculate and display common descriptive statistics (i.e., measures of central tendency, measures of variance, etc.).
- Explain the difference between sample and population, statistics and parameters.
- Describe dependent variables and independent variables.
- Calculate and interpret correlations.
- Make statistical predictions.

6.Explain the dangers of using correlation to determine causation. 7.Conduct hypothesis testing. 8.Calculate various inferential statistics, including Pearson’s r, various t-tests, ANOVA, and the Chi-square test.
