COURSE DESCRIPTION
Public Administration is the study of government policies, decisions, and actions with a direct effect on the public sector and citizens’ wellbeing. Public Administration deals with social problems and prepares future leaders who can have a positive impact working for the local government, municipal authorities, or non-profit organizations (NGOs).
In this course, the learners will understand public Administration as a interdisciplinary field overlapping with other areas, like Social Sciences, Business, Finance, Communication, Data Science, Law, and Ethics.
Public Administration seeks to answer questions like: What are the consequences of this new policy plan? Is the current proposal aligned with democratic values and the interests of citizens? Are our plans feasible from a political, social, and economic point of view? Have the latest policies had the expected impact?

This course also discusses the dimensions of social development and development concerns in Africa, with a benchmark of the country of Nigeria. However the practices cross cut the world social development structures, theories and perspectives. COURSE AIMS The aim of this course is to introduce students to the concept of public policies and governance as an aspect of development studies. The overall direction of the course is broken into specific objectives. These objectives are summarized below in the form of what students are expected to know on the successful completion of the course. COURSE OBJECTIVES To introduce students to meaning and definitions of ‘social development’ as well as dimensions of social development. To expose student to the various characteristics of social development. To expose students to development theories and perspectives in social development.To expose students to the emerging issues in social development practices in Nigeria. To expose students to the issues surrounding rural development and how they connect to social development in Nigeria. To expose students to the key social development challenges in Nigeria and how they impact on social development in Africa.3
